The Destruction Solution
While the NSA/DoD requires magnetic media be degaussed to sanitize information, they also highly recommend hard drives be physically destroyed prior to disposal. Some options for destruction are better than others. Incinerating, for example, releases a harmful debris-filled exhaust into the atmosphere while the shredding of a hard drive is extremely noisy and results in a mess of knife-edged shards. Bending, on the other hand, can offer quick, quiet and clean physical destruction.
Quick, Quiet and Safe
Data Security, Inc.'s DB-4000 Disk Drive Bender will fold, shatter, crush and break any hard drive placed inside, rendering it un-bootable and un-repairable. The DB-4000 Disk Drive Bender is designed with safety
in mind. When the safety door is open, the blade locks into
place preventing its operation. The door itself is made of a
shatterproof, yet transparent material that allows the user
to view inside. In the event of an emergency, a manual stop
button immediately halts the operation of the machine. The
DB-4000 includes a convenient debris collection tray for
quick and safe clean up.

Disk Destruction
Simply open the door and insert a hard drive. With single
button operation, the powerful blade of the DB-4000 Disk
Drive Bender descends on the media. With the force of
40,000 psi (equal to that of an elephant), the indestructible blade presses down on the media, bending, folding and
crushing the delicate platters and circuitry of the drive,
rendering it unusable and ready for disposal.

Chamber accommodates all media up to 4” (101 mm) high by 6” (152 mm) deep by 1.75” (254 mm) high. The DB-4000 can accommodate multiple
media per cycle (i.e. multiple laptop hard drives).
